Irene C. Kalina, 87

Irene Christine (Mrnak)
Kalina was born on May 2, 1921, in Lake Mary Township to Frank and Julia (Simek)
Mrnak. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in
Lake Reno Township. Irene attended country school in District 19 until the
eighth grade when she continued to help farm with her parents.
Irene married Leonard R. Kalina on June 12, 1944, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic
Church. The couple lived on Leonard's parents farm in Lake Reno Township, Pope
County. Irene helped farm along side Leonard doing the chores, feeding the
chickens and doing the field work.
Irene enjoyed, gardening, sewing, crocheting, playing cards especially whist,
cooking, making kolaches which were excellent, and going to dances.
Irene died on Tuesday, March 3, at Bethany Home in Alexandria at the age of 87.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Leonard; brother, Henry Mrnak
of Alexandria; sisters, Marian Kalina of Alexandria and Betty (Jerome) Ledermann
of Brandon; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great-great
nieces and nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Julia; brother-in-law,
Leonard L. Kalina; father-in-law, Henry Kalina; and mother-in-law, Barbara
Kalina.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 7, at the Anderson Funeral Home
Chapel in Alexandria with the Rev. Andrea Olson officiating. Music was provided
by organist, Margaret Kalina and soloist, Patrick Kalina. Entombment was held in
the Kinkead Cemetery. Casket bearers were Mike Kalina, Tim Kalina, John
Ledermann, Mark Ledermann, Gary Dynda and Bob Benesh. Honorary casket bearers
were the staff at Bethany Home.
